(กาลครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว กระต่ายป่าตัวหนึ่งชอบล้อเลียนเต่าว่าเดินช้า "เจ้าเคยไปถึงไหนบ้างไหมเนี่ย" มันถามพลางหัวเราะเยาะ "ไปถึงสิ" เต่าตอบ "และข้าจะไปถึงเร็วกว่าที่เจ้าคิดด้วย ข้าขอท้าวิ่งแข่งกับเจ้าเพื่อพิสูจน์ให้ดู")

The Race (การแข่งขัน)(กระต่ายรู้สึกขบขันมากที่จะต้องแข่งกับเต่า แต่ก็ตกลงเพื่อความสนุก เมื่อการแข่งขันเริ่มขึ้น กระต่ายก็วิ่งนำไปไกลจนลับสายตา และเพื่อให้เต่ารู้สึกว่าการมาแข่งกับมันนั้นเป็นเรื่องน่าตลกเพียงใด กระต่ายจึงล้มตัวลงนอนพักผ่อนข้างทางเพื่อรอให้เต่าตามมาทัน)

The Climax (จุดพลิกผัน)(ในขณะเดียวกัน เต่าก็ยังคงเดินต่อไปอย่างช้าๆ แต่สม่ำเสมอ จนกระทั่งเดินผ่านจุดที่กระต่ายนอนหลับอยู่ ส่วนกระต่ายก็ยังคงหลับสนิทอย่างเป็นสุข และเมื่อมันตื่นขึ้นมาในที่สุด เต่าก็เกือบจะถึงเส้นชัยแล้ว)The End (บทสรุป)

(กระต่ายรีบวิ่งด้วยความเร็วสูงสุดเท่าที่มี แต่ก็ไม่สามารถตามเต่าได้ทันเวลา)

The Tortoise and the Hare (กระต่ายกับเต่า)

Once upon a time, a Hare was making fun of a Tortoise for being so slow. "Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh. "Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."

The Hare was much amused at the idea of racing a Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing, he agreed. So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise should catch up.

The Tortoise meanwhile kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal.

The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not overtake the Tortoise in time.
